Double Opening and Machinima Premier at Odyssey Art and Performance

On Friday December 11 at 1 PM SLT, there will be a Double Opening and a Machinima Premiere at the Odyssey and Performance Simulator in Second Life.

Patrick Lichty – Chimera (Retrospective)

Odyssey Art and Performance Simulator, in cooperation with Australian National Portrait Gallery, Eyebeam Art & Technology Atelier, RMB City and Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art.

For the Past three years, Patrick Lichty and his virtual proxy Man Michinaga have been experimenting with art and performance in the online virtual world, Second Life. Chimera covers the past three years of his work, both in solo efforts and as a co-founder of the pioneering virtual performance art ensemble Second Front, and collaborations with artists like Gazira Babeli, Eva and Franco Mattes, Nathaniel Stern, and Cao Fei. To be “chimerical” refers to that which is unrealistically fanciful or highly mutable, and this is represented by the many forms Lichty creates – gender bending avatars, performance sets, and formal works. This show will also reference early Second Life work as well as current exhibitions on display around the Second Life Grid.

Liz Solo – Nature (Retrospective)

Liz Solo/lizsolo Matilde has been living on a corner of Odyssey Island in Second Life (first as a squatter and now as a full time resident) since close to her Rez Day – November 19, 2006. “Nature” reflects on three years of experiments and performances in Second Life. Some work is taken from solitary experiments themed around the avatar body, meat, birth and death. Liz Solo is also a member of the Second Front Performance Art Collective and the Avatar Orchestra Metaverse and “Nature” documents performances and special projects made in collaboration with these collectives.

“Machine I Am” Video Premiere – 3 PM SLT 

Machine I Am is a twenty minute-video piece merging machinima with digital video. On a post apocalyptic dreamscape one woman searches through memories for the information she needs to reconstruct the world. Made by and starring Liz Solo/lizsolo Mathilde. Featuring a special appearance by The Second Front. Score by Liz Solo, Avatar Orchestra Metaverse and Lizband. Poetry by Michael Wade.
